BetStop and self exclusion in Australia

How it works

1. Go to betstop.gov.au and register. You will confirm who you are with ID details.
2. Choose how long, from a few months up to permanent. If you are reading this because it keeps happening, pick the longest one you can live with.
3. It takes effect quickly, and during the period you cannot remove yourself.

What it does not cover

BetStop is for licensed wagering providers. It does not cover pokies in pubs and clubs, or casinos, which have their own venue exclusion programs. It does not cover offshore betting and casino sites. It does not close accounts with companies outside the register, so check each one you use.

Close the gaps

For the sites the register cannot reach, put a block on your phone that does not depend on a licence: iPhone or Android. For venues, ask the venue's staff or the state program how to exclude in person.
