GamStop and self exclusion in the UK

GamStop is the free national self exclusion scheme for online gambling in Great Britain. You register once and every online gambling company licensed in Great Britain is required to close your accounts and stop marketing to you.

How it works

1. Go to gamstop.co.uk and register with your name, date of birth and email.
2. Choose how long: six months, one year or five years.
3. It takes effect within a day. While it runs you cannot undo it, which is the point.
4. When the period ends you are not switched back on automatically. You choose whether to come off.

What it does not cover

It only covers companies licensed in Great Britain. It does not cover offshore sites that accept UK players, and those are where many people end up once the licensed doors are shut. It does not cover betting shops or casinos in person. It does not delete your accounts' history or return money, so withdraw your balance first if you can.
