What a bet a night costs you in ten years
The app shows you tonight. It never shows you the decade. Here is the decade.
The table assumes the money went somewhere boring instead, growing at 5% a year. Five percent is an assumption, not a promise, and it is on the low side of what a plain index fund has done over long stretches.
| Your usual bet | How often | One year | Five years | Ten years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | once a week | $5,200 | $28,700 | $65,400 |
| $100 | a few nights | $15,600 | $86,200 | $196,000 |
| $100 | most nights | $31,200 | $172,000 | $392,000 |
| $500 | most nights | $156,000 | $862,000 | $1,960,000 |
Why it reads wrong
If $65,000 sounds like one good parlay, that is the problem talking. A win that size would be the best night of your year and you would put most of it back by Sunday. The ten year number does not go back.
Your own number
The table is generic. Yours is not. HoldTheBet asks what you were about to put on tonight, how often, and what you do after you lose, then shows you tonight's stake as the ten year figure. It takes three taps and stays on your phone.
